A Fire Alarm Technician plays a crucial role in safeguarding lives and properties by ensuring that fire alarm systems are properly installed, maintained, and functioning in compliance with safety standards. The Canadian Fire Alarm Technology Program, offered by Health and Safety Management College (HSMC), is designed to equip individuals with the theoretical knowledge required to pursue a successful career in this essential field. Through this program, students gain the foundational expertise necessary to become skilled Fire Alarm Technicians, ready to take on the responsibility of protecting public safety.

Courses

The CFAA Canadian Fire Alarm Technology Program consists of 5 Courses:

Course 1: The Canadian Fire Alarm System – An Overview

Course 2: Verbal and Written Communication

Course 3: Basic Electricity

Course 4: Life Safety Systems Electronics

Course 5: The Canadian Fire Alarm System – An Overview

 

  • Saturdays & Sundays
  • 9am – 6pm EST
  • Courses 1 and 5 are designed to be taken sequentially. No exceptions
  • Courses 3 and 4 are designed to be taken sequentially. No exceptions

Program dates may change without notice due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather, instructor availability, or operational needs.

The College reserves the right to adjust the schedule and will notify registered students via the email provided at registration as early as possible

Learning Modules

This program is delivered in a hybrid, instructor-led format, bringing together both in-person and online students in the same class with the same instructor. Our video conferencing system ensures that online learners feel fully engaged and connected, just like those attending in the classroom.

Online Students

All online students must meet the minimum technology standards outlined in the Technology Requirements section to participate in online classes.

Please note, you are required to have your camera on at all times during training and test taking.

In-Person Students

In-person, instructor-led training takes place at the Monte Carlo Inn, 7255 Warden Ave, Markham, ON L3R 1B4

Technology Requirements

All students regardless of being In Person or Online must meet their Technology Requirements to successfully complete online quizzes and exams.

Read the full Technology Requirements and ensure you are prepared prior to the start of your course date.

Attendance Guidelines

As per ministry regulations, you may miss a maximum of 8 hours per course. Exceeding this limit will impact your completion.

If you will be missing course time, notify both the College Registrar and the Course Instructor as soon as possible.

If you are unable to take a scheduled quiz or test, you will need to reschedule on a day during the week with the College Registrar to take the quiz or test, PRIOR to your next course date.

You cannot miss more than

8 Hours Per Course

Exceeding this limit will prevent you from completing the program.

Payment Instructions

Paying by Credit Card

If you have submitted your credit card details with your contract, our Accounting Department will automatically process your course installment payment 2–3 days prior to your course start date.

No further action is required unless you are contacted by our team.

Paying by EMT (Email Money Transfer)

To secure your spot in your selected course(s), payment must be received 10 AM EST before the course start date.

Send payment to:

  • Please include the student name and course number in the EMT message field to ensure proper processing.

Payments must be received by Friday at 10 AM EST prior to your course start.

Unfortunately, if payment is not received by this time, we will not be able to finalize your registration and you will not be able to join the classroom.

This program satisfies the Theory training requirements of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) for registration as a Registered Fire Alarm Technician and is approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
