Gurjot Manku is an accomplished and award-winning Fire & Life Safety Professional with over 20 years of progressive experience in the field. His expertise encompasses Fire Protection, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health & Safety, and Accessibility. He has been recognized for his contributions to the profession, including being named one of Canada’s Top 25 Under 40 Health & Safety Professionals by OHS Canada and receiving the Platinum Jubilee Award for his significant community contributions.

Mr. Manku holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire & Life Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati and an Advanced Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology from Seneca Polytechnic, where he was awarded the Thomas Chiang Memorial Scholarship. He also holds a Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety from Ryerson University and has completed Basic Emergency Management and Incident Management Systems training at George Brown College.

He is a Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Fire Alarm Technician, Certified Fire Inspector, and NFPA 3000 PS: Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response; Plan, Respond, Recover Program Specialist. He is an Associate member of the Institute of Fire Engineers and is certified by the Rick Hansen Foundation as an RHFAC certified auditor. Mr. Manku is an approved Training Instructor with the National Fire Protection Association. He serves as Executive Director and National Treasurer for the Institute of Fire Engineers, Canada Branch, and as Director at Large and Chapter Secretary for the Canadian Fire Alarm Association, Ontario Chapter. He has also been a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Research, Tools & Methods Committee and a Voting Member of the Standing Committee on Fire Protection with the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes. He is currently pursuing his Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation.

His extensive experience in the Fire Protection field includes roles as a Fire Alarm Technician, Sprinkler Fitter, Project Manager, Fire Prevention Officer, Health & Safety Specialist, Consultant, and management positions within Fire Protection, Engineering, and Real Estate Management Corporations.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Manku is a dedicated father and husband, author, avid reader, and enjoys tennis and cycling. He is also actively involved in community service, serving as a Committee Member and 8-time Grand Club Member of the Brampton Brain Tumour Foundation, a Member and 2019 Bronze level Sponsor of the My Gut Feeling – Stomach Cancer Foundation of Canada, and a Volunteer Advocate for Affordable Care for Diabetes Canada.

Iman Yavari is a licensed Professional Engineer (in Canada and the USA) and Principal at AI Integrated, an Authorized NFPA Instructor. With over 20 years of experience in fire protection and life safety systems, he actively contributes to NFPA, UL/ULC technical committees.

Mark Wilson is a seasoned professional with a robust background in education and leadership development. With over three decades of experience in teaching and administrative roles, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the training and development of fire and life safety system professionals, building owners, and operators in Alberta and beyond. 

His passion for education extends beyond the classroom, as he actively engages in coaching and mentoring aspiring administrators, assistant principals, and principals.  

Mark’s philosophy centers on building a culture of success, emphasizing the importance of preparation and continuous improvement in educational settings. He believes that effective leadership is pivotal in shaping positive educational outcomes and fostering environments where both educators and students thrive.

Raymond Dulac is the President of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association’s Central Ontario Chapter and a seasoned fire alarm professional with over 20 years of field and leadership experience. He has managed and supervised fire alarm operations for leading companies, specializing in installation, inspection, verification, troubleshooting, and compliance. 

At HSMC, Raymond draws on his industry leadership, CFAA Education Committee work, and published technical expertise to prepare students for real-world success. His teaching emphasizes technical skill, professional ethics, and the confidence to excel as a certified fire alarm technician.

Rick Murray is a recognized fire protection engineer, designer, and educator with extensive experience in fire alarm system design, consulting, and code compliance. His roles have also included volunteer fire fighter, technician, Owner representative, Contractor, Manufacturer’s representative.

He serves as President of the CFAA Southwest Chapter, teaches at HSMC, and has a long-standing roster of industry clients across the public and private sectors. He has been in the fire alarm industry for over 47 years and is an Approved CFAA Instructor, Registered CFAA Fire Alarm Technician, and has served as a CFAA National Board Director for more than 25 years.

Shervin is a certified ESL instructor with a TESL Diploma, an IELTS Academic score of 9.0, and over a decade of teaching experience in Canada and internationally. He has helped countless learners succeed in language proficiency exams, professional communication, and workplace integration.

Thomas Richards brings over two decades of experience in the fire alarm and life safety industry, working across roles in systems design, installation, project management, and technical service. As a certified CFAA Fire Alarm Technician, he has worked with leading companies managing large-scale commercial and institutional projects. 

Thomas is passionate about knowledge-sharing and workforce development, combining field-tested experience with a practical, mentorship-focused teaching style. His goal in the classroom is simple: to help students not only meet industry standards—but exceed them.

Wade Smith is a fire protection professional with over 35 years in the fire alarm industry, bringing deep practical knowledge across inspections, service, system programming, sales, project management, and code compliance.

NFPA 1035 certified and an active NFPA and CFAA member, Wade pairs strong code expertise with extensive hands-on field experience. He is factory trained across multiple leading manufacturer platforms—including Notifier, ONYXWorks, Mircom FX2000, FX4000, and Flexnet, Potter, and Fire-Lite—spanning both conventional and addressable systems. He also brings 20 years of specialized experience in Special Hazards, including Ansul Sapphire and FM-200, lithium-ion risk prevention, Xtralis VESDA and Aspire detection, and ODP certification.

What sets Wade apart as an instructor is his ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical language—making code and system requirements easy to understand and apply. Grounded in ongoing field experience, he bridges the gap between code theory and real-world practice, ensuring his students leave ready to put what they’ve learned to work.
